Do You Have Habit of Focusing on Your Weaknesses?

When we focus on our weaknesses, we live in a problem-based world, one where there's doom and gloom around ever corner because we don't feel equipped to deal with hardships. When we focus on our strengths, we live in a solution-based world, one where we're able to see so many more options because we feel confident in ourselves that we have the tools and skills to solve life's problems.

Focusing on weaknesses brings on depression and feelings of inadequacy, frustration, and hopelessness. But when we focus on our strengths, we recognize and feel reassured that we can overcome our challenges. Focusing on our strengths rejuvenates us whereas focusing on our weaknesses deletes us. When we concentrate on our strengths, we can more easily and more quickly reach our goals.

Let's look at some more reasons why you should start focusing on strengths...

The Benefits of Focusing on Your Strengths

1. YOU WILL FEEL HAPPIER:

Studies show higher levels of happiness and vitality, improved mental health, and lower depression levels in people who focus on their strengths. This is because when we focus on all the good things about us, we see ourselves and the world around us in a positive light.

2. YOU WILL FEEL LESS STRESS:

Studies show people who focus on strengths have a higher level of positivity which makes them process stress and trauma differently. When you feel more assured that you can handle what life brings you, you feel less pressure when issues arise.

3. YOU WILL FEEL HEALTHIER:

Studies show that people who focus on strengths will more often partake in healthy behaviors than people who focus on their weaknesses. An active lifestyle, eating a well balanced diet, and making time for pleasurable activities are found more often in people who live strength-focused lives.

4. YOU WILL BE MORE CONFIDENT:

Studies show that people who focus on their strengths have significantly higher levels of self-efficacy, self-esteem, self-acceptance, and self-confidence than people who focus on their weaknesses. There's no mystery in why. If all you ever do is talk down to yourself and focus on what you're bad at, you're not going to feel confident in any area of your life.

5. YOU WILL FEEL MORE SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE:

Studies show that people who focus on their strengths are better problem-solvers, are more resistant to stress, and experience better physical health than people who focus on their weaknesses. No surprise there. It's extremely hard to feel satisfied with your life if you believe you're not strong enough to get through the hard times. When you focus on your strengths you can much easier see the good in your life and at the same time know that even when bad times show up, that you'll be able to persevere.

Take Some Time To Really Get To Know Yourself

Have you really ever sat down and thought about all of your strengths? If you haven't, it's time you did. It's time to know who you really are, ALL of you... not just all the 'bad' things you think about yourself. We spend so much of our life focusing on what's wrong with us or what we can't do. All this time wasted on thinking shitty thoughts about yourself could be used to better your life instead. Focusing on your strengths allows you to look at life as something you can enjoy because you're confident you'll be able to handle any obstacles that are in your way.

Having flaws and weaknesses is a part of life. We all have them and it's perfectly normal and okay. The important thing to remember is that it's your strengths that allow you to live an amazing, vibrant, and happy life... despite those flaws and weaknesses!

Get to know yourself better. Take a few minutes this week and write down all of your strengths and weaknesses on a piece of paper. It's amazing how much of an impact it makes when you can actually put your eyeballs on written word that describes yourself. You need to see, in written word, what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can more intimately understand how you deal with your life and the world around you.

Although focusing on your strengths is vital in living a happy life, you also need to know what your weaknesses are so you have a well-rounded understanding of who you are. Knowing your weaknesses and focusing on your weaknesses are two completely different things! Knowing your weaknesses is essential in order for you to improve them. Just be very mindful that your weaknesses don’t become your focus and don’t become your identity.

I do hope you take some time for yourself this week and learn a little bit about yourself. And remember, all of those strengths you write down are what you need to focus on from now on! No more negative dialog with yourself and putting yourself down for everything. It's time to change your mindset and start treating yourself with love, compassion, and patience.

What Does Focusing On Strengths Have To Do With Weight Loss?

If you want to successfully make it to the end of your weight loss journey, you will absolutely need to rely on your strengths. Weight loss journeys are not for the faint of heart and there are many times where you'll want to give up. If you focus on your weaknesses, you'll convince yourself to quit. If you focus on your strengths, you will know and believe that you can succeed. Focusing on your strengths is not only essential in reaching your weight loss goals, but your life goals.

Wishing you a healthy, happy, and productive rest of your week.

Xoxo,
Gabby
